My subject is a long way from the subjects in my children's books. I'm usually not so serious, but this election has really upset me. Don't misunderstand - I have no problem with the president. My gripe is the electoral college.
Our founding fathers were successful educated men in an age that gave them permission to be snobs and look down on the general public which was almost totally uneducated. They did not want the election to be by popular vote. They were sure the public was not bright enough to elect a president, so they created the electoral college. Thier assumption was arragant and unfair in that day and is even more unfair today.
We call ourselves a democracy. You hear "one man - one vote". Yet we hang on to that infamous system that denys votes from counting. This is the second election in a short span of time where the president did not receive the popular vote of the people meaning the will of the people is ignored. Our votes don't really count. It has touched the democrats and now the republicans. Let's get smart and do away with the electoral college. Then every vote will count and our president will be legitimately elected by the people.
